  • CORTRAN is the shortened name of County Of Roanoke TRANsportation. CORTRAN was established in 1985 to provide transportation to County of Roanoke individuals age 65 or better and individuals with disabilities. CORTRAN Flyer with more information.

  • CORTRAN is available to preapproved, eligible County of Roanoke residents who are either at least 65 years old, or who have a disability.

  • CORTRAN can take you to and from destinations within the County of Roanoke, Town of Vinton, City of Salem, and City of Roanoke.

  • CORTRAN service is offered Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

    No service is offered on Saturday or Sunday or on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

    The holiday schedule is subject to change on an annual basis. Please verify the current holiday schedule with Roanoke County.

    1. Complete the application.
    2. Provide age and residency documentation for verification purposes.
    3. If approved for CORTRAN services, you will receive a Client ID number. This number is to be used when making your reservation with Virginia Regional Transit (VRT) or for adding funds to your CORTRAN account.

    1. Download and log in to the CORTRAN mobile app by Spare Labs from the App Store or Google Play store; 
    2. Book online at: https://spare-rider-cortran-production.vercel.app/;
    3. Call Virginia Regional Transit (540) 776-7271 and select option 1 to schedule, cancel or add a form of payment to your CORTRAN account.

  • Payment is not accepted onboard but you can add a form of payment to your account by:

    • Using the CORTRAN app to link a credit/debit card;
    • Contacting Virginia Regional Transit (VRT) at (540) 776-7271 option 1, to pay by cash, check; or credit/debit card
    • Riders should only purchase the amount of CORTRAN account funds they will use in a reasonable amount of time. CORTRAN account funds cannot be redeemed for cash and are not transferable. No refunds will be issued for rider dissatisfaction of the service. CORTRAN account funds are non refundable after purchased.
