[ARCHIVED] Children’s Nest Learning Center Expansion Breaks Ground in Hollins

(ROANOKE COUNTY, VA – October 28, 2022)   Children’s Nest Learning Center - Hollins has broken ground to expand its campus in the Hollins area of Roanoke County. Children’s Nest Learning Center - Hollins is currently permitted to offer 105 childcare slots at their existing facility but will add more than 150 new slots with the expansion. The added space will increase their capacity for infant, toddler, pre-k, and after-school care.

“We want to be a game-changer in our community and help more families find childcare that offers quality and educational care,” said Rhonda Spangler, owner of Children’s Nest Learning Center. “Childcare is very needed in and around the Roanoke area right now and we will be able to open many more slots to help fulfill that community need with our new facility.”

Children’s Nest Learning Center – Hollins currently operates at 504 Dexter Road in Hollins but will develop an adjacent parcel to construct a 7,000-square-foot facility for daycare and afterschool programs as well as the addition of a splash pad for water recreation. This project reflects an estimated $2.5 million investment which will create 15 new jobs.

Children’s Nest Learning Center - Hollins operates under the Department of Social Services as well as the Department of Education which allows for curriculum-based learning for their enrollees. The necessity of childcare has increased since the beginning of COVID-19 and this project will help ease the constraints on childcare availability in the community.

“Children’s Nest is providing a much-needed service to our community and will be able to extend the availability of high-quality childcare with this expansion in Hollins,” said Marshall Stanley.

This project is within the boundaries of the Roanoke County Hollins Center Plan which is a multi-year initiative to revitalize the area. The Hollins area also has the highest concentration of employment in Roanoke County, making the expansion of local childcare value added for businesses in the area. The expansion is expected to be completed in late 2023.
