[ARCHIVED] Ridge at Fairway Forest Subdivision Wins Stormwater Clean Award

NEWS RELEASE - Stormwater Award_Ridge at Fairway Forest 5-16-25

(Roanoke County, VA – May 16, 2025) Roanoke County’s Department of Development Services presented its prestigious NEWS RELEASE - Stormwater Award_Ridge at Fairway Forest 5-16-25 Stormwater Clean Award to the Ridge at Fairway Forest (Sec. 2) subdivision project, located on Fairway Ridge Road in Salem, VA.

Through some REALLY tough rain events, including Hurricane Helene this past fall and a 5.5 inch rain event a month later, Eric Bowman of Bowman Excavating, Inc. and Alexander Boone of ABoone Real Estate, Inc. worked quickly to get back into compliance under continuously difficult weather. Ryan Homes has been very diligent to continue the great site work on individual home sites by keeping silt fence installed, regularly sweeping the roads, keeping the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) current, and promptly installing soil stabilization measures.

Winning this award is no small feat, as land development in Roanoke County presents difficult challenges in the management of stormwater runoff due to the very steep slopes and highly erodible soils in the region. Because of these challenges, Roanoke County implements the Contractor Appreciation Program to recognize land-disturbing contractors who conduct exemplary work within the County to protect its natural water resources.

Roanoke County inspectors submit candidate projects to a selection committee to evaluate them for recognition. Selected projects display a Stormwater Clean Award banner until the work is completed and the County recognizes such projects in the department’s It’s Just Dirt newsletter and on its stormwater webpage.
