[ARCHIVED] Stormwater Management Seeks Public Comments About TMDL Action Plans

(ROANOKE COUNTY, VA – March 31, 2025) Roanoke County’s Stormwater Management division is seeking public comments about updated Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plans for three pollutants of concern.

These pollutants, along with others, are monitored by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). Roanoke County has 16 different streams, including the Roanoke River, with 28 identified impairments. DEQ performs studies on impaired waters to determine the “Total Maximum Daily Load,” or “TMDL,” that the water can assimilate and still meet water quality standards. As part of fulfilling its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit requirements, Roanoke County has updated its Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plans for three pollutants of concern: Bacteria (E. coli), Sediment, and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs).

Pursuant to the permit requirements, Roanoke County’s Stormwater Management division is accepting public comments on these updated TMDL Action Plans from April 1 – April 15, 2025.
