Citizen Connect Permits App Wins COVITS Award

(ROANOKE COUNTY, VA – September 11, 2024) Roanoke County’s GIS Team and Development Services Department received a Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology (COVITS) Award for its newly released Citizen Connect Permits application.

The Citizen Connect Permits app provides status information for all permit applications submitted to the County. Users are able to retrieve permit information by entering an address, owner name or Parcel ID in the search bar or by clicking on a parcel on a map of the County. Once a parcel is selected, users can view the permit status information, various maps and imagery, and print reports directly from the app.

The Citizen Connect Permit app joins a suite of award-winning and innovative GIS-enabled applications hosted at https://gis.roanokecountyva.gov/.

The award was announced at the 2024 COVITS Symposium held September 11, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia. Speakers included Governor Glenn Youngkin, Lieutenant Governor Winsom Earle-Sears, other dignitaries from state and local government, along with technology industry leaders.
