[ARCHIVED] Eco-Fest at Explore Park Offers Activities and Workshops for All

Eco-Fest at Explore Park  - Saturday, July 13


(ROANOKE COUNTY, VA  - July 8, 2024) -   Roanoke County’s Eco-Fest at Explore Park will host a full day of expanded activities and workshops for all on Saturday, July 13! Come celebrate and learn how to protect our natural environment! See the full event schedule below. 

River Clean-Up – 9 AM to 11 AM 
Join our Volunteer Coordinator as we complete a clean-up event along the Roanoke River. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Clean-up supplies are provided on-site at Journey’s End. 

Rainbarrel Workshop – 10:30 AM & 11:30 AM (12 Participants per class)
Learn how to create and use rain barrels to collect and recycle rainwater! Sponsored by Friends of the Blue Ridge and hosted by Clean Valley Council. Spaces are limited, sign up early. 

TRASH – Reuse and Upcycle – 10 AM to 3 PM
Discover “Trashion Fashion” and how to turn trash into treasure with this creative workshop! Explore innovative ways to reuse and upcycle materials into something new and useful like jewelry, accessories, and clothing. 

Guided Hike with the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Society of American Foresters – 10 AM & 12:30 PM 
Attend an informative hike through Explore Park with expert guides! 

Water Education by Western Virginia Water Authority – 10 AM to 3 PM
Come see interactive displays and activities that are focused on water conservation and education! 

Water and Soil Education by Mountain Castles Soil & Water Conservation District – 10 AM to 3 PM
Get your hands on these hands-on activities and educational displays that discuss the importance of soil and water conservation! Understand what it means to maintain a sustainable environment with the help of healthy soil and clean water. 

Solar Ovens, Sun Dials, and Sun Prints – 10 AM to 3 PM
Join our Volunteer Coordinator as we complete a clean-up event along the Roanoke River. Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. Clean-up supplies are provided on-site at Journey’s End. 

VA Master Naturalist Booth: All Day
Visit here to learn about local wildlife, conservation efforts, and how you can get involved in protecting our natural resources.

Sweet Surrender Snack Vendor: All Day
Visit here to take a break and enjoy some delicious ice cream!
