[ARCHIVED] Traffic Alert: Expect Lane Closures on Route 220 in Roanoke and Franklin Counties

The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled lane closures on Route 220 in Roanoke and Franklin counties that will impact traffic for several weeks.

These lane closures are needed to repair damage from the remnants of Hurricane Michael that passed through southwestern Virginia in early October.

Route 220 drivers should expect possible delays and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

The following lane closures will be in place:

Route 220 in Franklin County at the Roanoke County Line

The left lane of southbound Route 220 just north of Route 613 (Naff Road) is damaged from a failed pipe in the median. This lane will remain closed until sometime in early November when repairs are completed. Drivers travelling from Roanoke to the Martinsville Speedway during the weekend for the race events may want to expect possible delays for this southbound lane closure.

The repairs will begin on Tuesday, October 23. Because the repairs are in the median, a long-term northbound left lane closure also will be required.

This northbound left lane closure will be removed over the weekend to lessen the impacts to race traffic. Except for the weekend, the northbound left lane will remain closed until sometime in early November.

The location of these left lane closures is about eight miles south of Roanoke and 1.7 miles north of Boones Mill.

In the Clearbrook area, daytime lane closures outside of peak travel times may be in place on northbound and southbound Route 220 for shoulder repairs.
