Roanoke County, Virginia (January 10, 2018) – Roanoke County is looking for community feedback as Explore Park’s Adventure Plan vision becomes a reality. Over the next twelve months, County leaders plan to design and construct a mountain bike skills facility and make improvements to existing trails within the park.

Roanoke County is working with trail and skills element design firms to make recommendations and produce actionable plans for the facility. During this process, an emphasis will be placed on designing a facility that promotes youth, beginner and intermediate level mountain biking skills. The public is invited to attend two community meetings to provide input on this project:

Tuesday, January 16
7:00 P.M. at Brambleton Center

Thursday, January 18
7:00 P.M. at Vinton War Memorial
814 E. Washington Ave
Vinton, VA 24179

These community meetings will help focus design efforts by providing opportunities for citizens and advocacy groups to shape the future of outdoor recreation at Explore Park. Attendees will be able to register to be entered into a drawing for prizes including a free children’s bike and an adult bike accessory, sponsored by the Roanoke Chapter of the International Mountain Bike Association and East Coasters Bike Shop.

The Explore Park Adventure Plan, adopted by the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors in 2016, establishes a vision for the park as the starting place for individuals and families seeking adventure and enrichment in the outdoors. Additional changes are coming to the park in 2018 including road infrastructure development, overnight tent and cabin accommodations and increased recreation programming.
