[ARCHIVED] Police Respond to Incident on Pendleton Avenue

(Roanoke County, VA—September 15, 2017) At approximately 9:53 a.m. Roanoke County Police were dispatched to the 6400 block of Pendleton Avenue in reference to a domestic incident with a weapon complaint. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make verbal contact with individuals inside the residence by telephone; however, there was no answer. It was later determined that a 21-year old male had threatened suicide by use of a handgun in front of family members within the residence. Family members managed to leave the house and were escorted to a safe location by police. The house was surrounded by police in order to contain the threat to the community, and schools in the immediate area were asked to shelter- in-place until the situation was resolved. After negotiating with the subject to exit the residence, he complied and was taken into custody at 10:52 a.m. without further incident for a mental health evaluation.
