[ARCHIVED] Roanoke County Issues Report on Updates to Capital Projects

Roanoke County has released a quarterly update to its ongoing Capital Improvement program. The report includes updates about the Vinton Library project, Roanoke County’s Criminal Justice Academy project, Social Services building renovations, and other notable projects in development across the County.

This report, along with future updates, can be found on Roanoke County’s website at www.roanokecountyva.gov/CIPupdates.

The County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) is a means of planning for the purchase of new assets or replacement of assets that have a useful life of at least 5 years or a cost of at least $100,000. Assets may include items such as major repairs to County facilities, reconstruction or replacement of buildings or equipment, new construction or development, property acquisition, or acquisition or new equipment. Capital Improvement Projects must comply with the County’s Comprehensive Plan and be approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Each year an appointed committee of citizens reviews the County’s capital needs and then prioritizes these needs according to adopted policies, community needs, and statements articulated by the Board of Supervisors. This committee makes funding recommendations to the Board of Supervisors as part of the annual budget development process.
