[ARCHIVED] Roanoke County Seeks Input for Stormwater Program

May 20, 2014 – Roanoke County is seeking public involvement in developing its Stormwater Education and Outreach Program, pursuant to the requirements of its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System ((MS4) Permit. The County is required to focus its program on three high-priority water quality issues, such as sediment, nutrients (e.g., nitrogen, phosphorus), pet wastes and local bacteria TMDLs, high-quality receiving waters, and illicit discharges from commercial sites. In addition, the County must specify its rationale for the selection of these three issues and identify and develop relevant messages and materials to educate the target audiences who are most likely to have significant impacts on the three high-priority water quality issues.

Interested citizens may provide input regarding program development by submitting comments to the Department of Community Development, 5204 Bernard Drive, Second Floor, Roanoke, VA 24018-0798. Or, citizens may provide online comments at the following website: http://www.roanokecountyva.gov/index.aspx?NID=1560.

The County will receive comments and suggestions regarding development of its Stormwater Education and Outreach Program through June 1, 2014. As required by the MS4 Permit, the County will submit its updated program to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) by July 1, 2014.
