Mark your calendar: on Tuesday, August 9, at the 7:00 p.m. meeting, the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing and consider a resolution to adopt the first ever Roanoke County Community Strategic Plan

All attendees are invited to discuss the proposed strategic direction of the County as set forth in the draft plan.

The plan establishes a new vision and direction for County departments and community partners. If adopted, it will guide policy and service delivery decisions for the next several years. The document, as well as many comments collected so far, is available for review online

Assistant County Administrator and Community Strategic Plan Coordinator Daniel R. O’Donnell sees the plan as a tool to realize the County’s future potential. “This process was the most inclusive I have seen in my many years working for the citizens of Roanoke County,” he stated. “I believe it will provide the community with the strategic direction it needs. I would like to thank all of the people who were involved in the Community Strategic Plan process.”

The plan is the culmination of over 10 months of community input from nearly 900 Roanoke County citizens and regional partners. The intensive process to develop the plan, which began in a Board of Supervisors retreat on September 15, 2015, involved community input from a telephone survey, 20 focus group meetings, four community meetings and an open public comment period.

Transportation/Paratransit Options for the Public Hearing
Some comments from the public have already made an impact on County procedures: as requested by several citizens in the public meetings, transportation to the public hearing for CORTRAN and STAR clients will be made available until 9:00 pm on August 9.

Clients of CORTRAN or STAR may contact RADAR before 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 5 at (540) 343-1721 in order to schedule transportation to and from the Board Meeting.
