Madeline Hanlon, Assistant County Administrator

Madeline Hanlon assumed the role of Assistant County Administrator in November 2025. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Community Engagement/Assistant to the County Administrator since April 2022. In her previous role, Ms. Hanlon assists county administration with constituent concerns, strategic planning, policy issues, and operational initiatives.

Madeline Hanlon previously served for nearly two years as deputy clerk to the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors and as a paralegal in the Roanoke County Attorney's office. She then became the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors and & Public Affairs Manager for Franklin County. In 2022, after three and a half years with Franklin County, Hanlon returned to Roanoke County.

Ms. Hanlon holds a master’s of Business Administration from Bowling Green State University and a bachelor’s of Business Administration from Roanoke College. She also holds a graduate certificate in Local Government Management from Virginia Tech and is a certified municipal clerk through the International Municipal Clerk Association.

Madeline Hanlon was named in the Roanoke Valley’s “40 Under 40” Class of 2022. She is also a 2019 graduate of Leadership Roanoke Valley and a 2021 graduate of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy.

Ms. Hanlon represents Roanoke County on regional boards, including the Board and Executive Committee of Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare and the Local Office on Aging. She was also recently appointed to serve on the Community Policy and Management Team, the Regional Community Corrections Board, and the Regional Drug Court Advisory Board.
