Public Safety Academy

The Roanoke County Police, Fire and Rescue, and Sheriff's Department will hold its annual Citizen's Public Safety Academy in May of 2026. Sessions will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Tuesday. The goal of the Public Safety Academy is to educate citizens on why and how our agencies carry out our missions while working together as a team. Campus Fire Safety

Cooking Safety

Did you know that cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires and home injuries? By following a few safety tips (PDF), you can prevent these fires.

Firewise Virginia

Firefighters need your help! Is Your Home Firewise? Reduce the risk to you and your family by becoming Firewise - a program developed by the Virginia Department of Forestry and facilitated by Roanoke County Fire and Rescue. If you would like one of our personnel to assist you in conducting a home assessment, please call our Safety and Education line at 540-777-8718.

Fireworks Safety

The Roanoke County Fire Marshal's Office would like to remind citizens that Virginia laws prohibit the use of consumer fireworks for private use with the following exceptions: sparklers, fountains, pharaohs, serpents, and caps. It is important to realize that consumer fireworks can also be dangerous, especially to children.
